Thomas Lister (born around 1658 – died February 8, 1718) was an English politician. He lived in Coleby, Lincolnshire. Thomas Lister was a member of the Tory Party and served in the English House of Commons and later the House of Commons of Great Britain. He was a Member of Parliament from 1705 to 1715.

Early Life and Family
Thomas Lister was the oldest son of William Lister and Frances Franklyn. His mother, Frances, was the daughter of Sir John Franklyn, who was also a Member of Parliament.
Thomas went to Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge when he was 16 years old in 1675. Later, in 1678, he studied law at Gray's Inn.
In 1683, Thomas Lister married Jane Hawtrey. Her father was John Hawtrey. In 1687, Thomas inherited Coleby Hall from his father. He made the hall even bigger.
Public Service and Political Career
Thomas Lister held several important roles. From 1695 to 1696, he was the High Sheriff of Lincolnshire. This was a high-ranking official position in the county.
From 1700 to 1705, he worked as a Commissioner. His job was to manage debts for the army, navy, and transport.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
In 1705, Thomas Lister was elected as a Member of Parliament for Lincoln. He won this election on his own, showing he was well-known and respected.
When he first joined Parliament, he voted against the King's choice for Speaker. This showed he was independent.

In 1710, Thomas Lister opposed the effort to remove Dr. Sacheverell from his position. This was a big political event at the time.
