Sir Thomas Lowe (died 11 April 1623) was an English politician. He was a member of the House of Commons at different times between 1606 and 1622. He also served as an important official, an alderman, in the City of London. In 1604, he became the Lord Mayor of London, a very important leadership role.

Sir Thomas Lowe's Life and Work

Sir Thomas Lowe was the son of Simon Lowe from Bromley, Kent. His mother was Margaret Lacey. He was part of a special group called the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers. This was a guild for people who sold small items like needles, thread, and ribbons.

Early Career and Roles

In 1594, Sir Thomas Lowe became the Master of the Haberdashers Company. This meant he was the leader of this important trade group. The same year, he became an alderman for the Billingsgate area of London. An alderman was a senior member of the city council.

In 1595, he was chosen as the Sheriff of the City of London. This was another important job, helping to keep law and order in the city. He became Master of the Haberdashers again in 1602.

Becoming Lord Mayor

Sir Thomas Lowe was knighted at Whitehall on July 26, 1603. This meant he was given the title "Sir" by the King. In 1604, he reached a very high position: Lord Mayor of London. This made him the chief leader of the city. He was also Master of the Haberdashers Company again in 1604.

From 1605 until his death in 1623, he was a governor of the Levant Company. This company was involved in trade with countries in the Middle East.

Serving in Parliament

In 1606, Sir Thomas Lowe was elected as a Member of Parliament for the City of London. He served in the House of Commons until 1611.

He continued his work with the Haberdashers, becoming Master again in 1608. In 1609, he changed his alderman role from Billingsgate to Broad Street Ward.

From 1610 until his death, he was the President of St Bartholomew's Hospital. This shows his involvement in helping the community. He was Master of the Haberdashers again in 1612.

In 1614, he was re-elected as an MP for the City of London. This Parliament was known as the Addled Parliament. He was Master of the Haberdashers again in 1615.

From 1616 until his death, he was a Colonel of the East Regiment Trained Bands. This was a local military group. His last time as Master of the Haberdashers was from 1618 to 1619. In 1621, he was elected as an MP for the City of London for the last time.

Sir Thomas Lowe married Ann Coulston. She was the daughter of Gabriel Coulston from London.
