Thomas Lupton (1628—1684) was an important early settler of Norwalk, Connecticut. A settler is someone who helps start a new town or community. Thomas Lupton arrived in Norwalk around 1655 from the New Haven Colony. He was named a freeman in 1664. Being a freeman meant he had special rights, like being able to vote and own land in the colony.

Life in Early Norwalk
Thomas Lupton helped build the new town of Norwalk. He lived on a piece of land called home-lot number 27. This land was located near the back of the main street where the first homes were built.
Thomas Lupton's Family
Thomas Lupton had a daughter named Hannah. Hannah married a man named Ebenezer Blakeley. Hannah and Ebenezer also had a daughter, and they named her Hannah too! This second Hannah married John Nash. Their family became very well-known in Norwalk.
Helping the Community
Thomas Lupton also had a special job in the community. In July 1668, the people of Norwalk chose him to help during church services. His job was to watch the children. He made sure they did not play or misbehave during the important worship time. This shows how much the community trusted him.

Thomas Lupton is remembered as one of Norwalk's first settlers. His name is carved on the Founders Stone. This stone is in the East Norwalk Historical Cemetery. It lists the names of all the people who helped start the town of Norwalk.
