Early Life of Thomas Salisbury

Thomas Salisbury was the older son of Katheryn of Berain and Sir John Salusbury. He was set to inherit the important Lleweni Estate. Sadly, his father passed away in 1566, shortly after Thomas's younger brother, Sir John Salusbury, was born.

In 1575, Thomas married Margaret Wynn. This was a child marriage, meaning they were very young when they got married. Thomas did not agree with the marriage at first. For a while, they were not close. Later, they had a daughter named Margaret. Thomas's daughter Margaret would later inherit a place called Berain. His younger brother, Sir John Salusbury, inherited the Lleweni Estate.

The Babington Plot

Around 1580, Thomas Salisbury joined a group of young Catholic gentlemen. They were loyal to Mary, Queen of Scots. During this time, he met Sir Anthony Babington.

In September 1586, Salisbury became involved in the Babington Plot. This was a secret plan to remove Queen Elizabeth I from her throne. The goal was to make Mary, Queen of Scots, the new queen.

The plot was discovered. Thomas Salisbury faced serious consequences for his part in it. He was put to death on 21 September 1586. Five other people involved in the plot were also put to death that day. Sir Anthony Babington had been put to death the day before.
