Thomas de Monthermer (born October 4, 1301 – died June 24, 1340) was an important figure in English history. He held the title of the 2nd Baron Monthermer. Thomas was the son of Ralph de Monthermer, 1st Baron Monthermer and Joan of Acre. His mother, Joan, was the daughter of King Edward I of England. This made Thomas a first cousin to King Edward III of England.

His Early Years

Thomas de Monthermer was born on October 4, 1301. His birthplace was Stoke, Ham, in the county of Wiltshire, England.

Family and Titles

When his father passed away, Thomas inherited the title of Baron Monthermer. This meant he became a nobleman with a special rank. He married a woman named Margaret de Brewes. She was the daughter of Sir Peter de Brewes.

Thomas and Margaret had one daughter together. Her name was Margaret. In 1343, their daughter Margaret married John de Montacute, 1st Baron Montacute. John was the younger brother of William Montacute, 2nd Earl of Salisbury. He was also the son of William Montagu, 1st Earl of Salisbury.

Margaret and John had a son named John. This grandson of Thomas later became the 3rd Earl of Salisbury. He also held the title of 4th Baron Monthermer.

Later Life and Death

In 1340, Thomas de Monthermer took part in a major battle. This was the Battle of Sluys, a famous naval battle during the Hundred Years' War. Sadly, Thomas was badly wounded during the fighting. He died from his injuries on June 24, 1340.
