Thompson, also known as Thompson Station, is a small place in Bullock County, Alabama, in the United States. It is an unincorporated community, which means it does not have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it is governed by the county.

A Look Back: Thompson's History

Thompson has an interesting past, even though it is a small community today. It was officially recognized as an incorporated town on September 8, 1883. When a place is incorporated, it means it gets a special legal document called a charter. This charter allows it to have its own local government, make its own rules, and provide services to its residents.

However, Thompson's time as an incorporated town did not last forever. In July 1919, its charter was repealed. This means the legal document that gave it town status was taken away. After this, Thompson went back to being an unincorporated community, managed by Bullock County.

For many years, Thompson was an important stop for mail. A post office served the community from 1878 all the way until 1954. This post office was a central spot for people to send and receive letters and packages.

How Many People Lived Here?

We can learn about Thompson's past by looking at how many people lived there over the years. This information comes from the United States Census, which counts everyone in the country every ten years.

In 1900, about 145 people called Thompson home. Ten years later, in 1910, the population grew quite a bit to 263 people. However, by 1920, the number of residents went down to 206. These numbers give us a glimpse into how the community changed over time.
