The community of Thompson has a history that goes back to the 1800s. A post office was first opened here in 1860. It was called "Thompson's Station" back then.
Later, in 1883, the name of the post office was changed to simply "Thompson." The community was named after William Thompson, who was an early postmaster in the area. He helped to set up the mail service for the people living there.
