In 2010, only 46 people lived here. Thompsonville is located in the northwest part of Jim Hogg County. It is about 9 miles (14 km) southwest of Hebbronville, which is the main town of the county.

Why is it Called Thompsonville?
The name Thompsonville comes from another small community. This original community is near the western edge of Jim Hogg County. It is located where two roads, Farm Road 649 and Farm Road 3073, meet. This spot is about 9 miles (14 km) west of the current Thompsonville CDP. It is also about 18 miles (29 km) southwest of Hebbronville. People believe the community was named after Oscar Thompson. He was the very first sheriff of Jim Hogg County.
A Look at Thompsonville's Past
The story of Thompsonville began in the 1910s. A big change happened on April 17, 1921. This was when the first oil well in the county started producing oil. This well was in the Mirando Valley field, close to Thompsonville. The discovery of oil brought many new people to the area.
A post office was opened in Thompsonville in 1925. However, it closed down around 1936. By the late 1940s, the area had a school and several businesses. Today, Thompsonville is still a small, spread-out community. Its population remains less than 50 people.
