Ticknock facts for kids

Ticknock or Tiknock is a place in County Dublin, Ireland. Its name comes from the Irish words Tigh an Chnoic, which mean "house of the hill." Ticknock is located southwest of Sandyford, right at the start of the Dublin Mountains. It's part of an area called the Dundrum electoral division and covers about 2.6 square kilometers.
Exploring Ticknock
Ticknock is a popular spot for outdoor fun. It has many trails for walking and biking, especially in the beautiful Ticknock Forest.
Ticknock Forest Adventures
Ticknock Forest is managed by an organization called Coillte. It's known as one of their most visited and loved places. In 2020, Coillte planted new native trees in parts of the forest. These new trees are deciduous, meaning they lose their leaves in autumn, unlike the evergreen trees that were there before. This helps make the forest even more diverse and beautiful.
From Countryside to Community
Originally, Ticknock was mostly a quiet, rural area at the base of Three Rock Mountain. However, in the early 2000s, new homes were built in the area. These houses are located between the original townland and the M50 motorway to the north. This means Ticknock has grown from a purely natural spot into a place where people live and enjoy nature.
