Tiffany was also a big fan of Oprah Winfrey. She said she never missed an episode of Oprah's show. Her mother often took her to the public library. There, Tiffany found a love for reading and writing.
She went to Clark Atlanta University. She studied mass communications. Her focus was on radio, television, and film. She attended the university but did not graduate.
Tiffany Cross's Career Journey
Tiffany Cross has worked in media and politics for over 20 years. She has covered many campaigns and elections. These include local, state, and national races. She also reported on politics in Washington D.C.
Her first job in journalism was as a reporter. She worked at a radio station in Atlanta. Later, in the early 2000s, she worked for CNN. There, she was an associate producer.
Cross also served as the Washington, D.C., bureau chief for BET Networks. A bureau chief leads a news office in a specific location. After that, she became a resident fellow. This was at the Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics.
She was a regular guest on MSNBC shows. One show she often appeared on was AM Joy. In July 2020, she became one of the guest hosts for that show. Tiffany Cross also worked as the managing editor for The Beat DC.
Hosting The Cross Connection
In August 2020, MSNBC was looking for new hosts. Tiffany Cross, Jonathan Capehart, and Zerlina Maxwell were all considered. They were being thought of for weekend show slots.
In December, Tiffany Cross was chosen to host a new show. It was a two-hour show on MSNBC called Cross Connection. Sometimes it was called Crosstalk. This show took over the Saturday slot that AM Joy used to have. Jonathan Capehart took the Sunday slot. Zerlina Maxwell started her own show on NBC Peacock.
Leaving MSNBC
In October 2022, Tiffany Cross made a comment about Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. He had recently had concussions. During her show on October 8, she discussed player safety. She made a statement about how some coaches protect players. However, the Dolphins' head coach, Mike McDaniel, is biracial. Also, Tua Tagovailoa is of Samoan descent.
On November 4, 2022, MSNBC told her production team that her contract would not be renewed. This meant her show, The Cross Connection, was canceled.
Tiffany Cross shared her thoughts on the cancellation. She said she was "disheartened" by the decision. This happened just four days before the midterm elections. She also said she looked forward to keeping a platform. This platform would continue to show the changing makeup of the country.
In 2024, Cross began hosting a new podcast. It is called the Native Land Podcast. She hosts it with attorney Angela Rye and politician Andrew Gillum. The podcast aims to cover the 2024 election. It focuses on it through a "Black lens."
