Tiffin, Missouri facts for kids
Tiffin is a small, unincorporated community located in the southern part of St. Clair County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government.
Where is Tiffin?
Tiffin is found along Missouri Route 82. It's about seven miles northeast of a town called El Dorado Springs. It's also about fourteen miles southwest of another town, Osceola.
A small stream named Little Clear Creek flows about a mile west of Tiffin. This creek is a "tributary," which means it flows into a larger body of water, in this case, Clear Creek. The upper parts of the Harry S Truman Reservoir are also nearby, about 2.5 miles north of the community. A reservoir is a large artificial lake used to store water.
History of Tiffin
Tiffin has had a couple of other names in the past. People sometimes called it "New Tiffin" or "Whitley." The community was officially mapped out and divided into lots, a process called "platting," under the name Whitley in the year 1890.
For many years, Tiffin had its own post office. However, this post office eventually closed down in 1955.
