Tigre Club facts for kids
The Tigre Club is a beautiful building located right by the Luján River in Tigre, a town close to Buenos Aires, Argentina. It stands on a lovely riverside walk called Paseo Victorica. This grand club was built next to the old Tigre Hotel, which was taken down in 1940.
A wealthy businessman named Ernesto Tornquist helped pay for the club. It was designed by architects Pablo Pater and Luis Dubois, along with engineer Emilio Mitre. Emilio Mitre was the son of Bartolomé Mitre, who used to be the President of Argentina. The Tigre Club first opened its doors on January 13, 1912. Just like the hotel next door, which opened earlier in 1890, the Tigre Club quickly became a popular spot for important and famous people to gather.

The Amazing Building
The Tigre Club is a very elegant and fancy building. It has two main floors, plus smaller levels called mezzanines. You'll notice large windows all around, letting in lots of light.
Inside the Club
The main room on the first floor is decorated with beautiful paintings on the walls. These paintings were created by a Spanish artist named Julio Vila y Prades. The stairs inside are made of shiny marble, and there are fancy Venetian mirrors and sparkling French chandeliers hanging from the ceilings.
A Look at Its History
The Tigre Club has had an interesting past, changing its purpose over the years.
From Casino to Quiet Club
For a few years, from 1927 to 1933, the Tigre Club was home to a casino. But a new law was passed that said casinos couldn't be so close to Buenos Aires. So, the casino moved to a city called Mar del Plata. When the casino closed, and with a big worldwide economic problem known as the Great Depression, fewer people visited the club. After the Tigre Hotel was demolished in 1940, the Tigre Club continued as a restaurant with live shows. However, it never became as popular and grand as it once was.
Becoming a National Monument
In 1979, the Tigre Club was recognized as a National Historic Monument. This means it's a very important building in Argentina's history and should be protected. After a lot of work to fix it up and make it beautiful again, the building reopened in 2006.
The Tigre Art Museum
Today, the Tigre Club building is home to the Tigre Municipal Museum of Fine Art, also known as Museo de Arte Tigre. This museum has a large collection of art created by Argentine artists. It's a wonderful place to see beautiful paintings and sculptures.
