The Story of Tillman
The community of Tillman began a long time ago, in the year 1883. For some time, people would sometimes spell its name as "Tilman." A post office was opened in the community in 1883. This post office was important for people to send and receive mail. It stayed open and served the community for many years, finally closing in 1906. The community was named after a man named John Tilman. He owned a sawmill in the area, which was a place where logs were cut into lumber for building.
