Tine Thing Helseth (born August 18, 1987) is a super talented trumpet player from Norway. She plays classical music, which means she performs beautiful pieces written by famous composers. She is known as a soloist, meaning she often plays by herself with an orchestra.

Tine's Musical Journey

Tine was born in Oslo, the capital city of Norway. She started playing the trumpet when she was just 7 years old. She joined a school band and quickly fell in love with the instrument.

She studied music at two special schools in Norway:

  • The Barratt Due Institute of Music from 2002 to 2009.
  • The Norwegian Academy of Music from 2009 to 2011.

Tine had some amazing teachers who helped her become the great musician she is today. One of her teachers was Heidi Johanessen from the Norwegian National Opera Orchestra. Another important teacher was Arnulf Naur Nilsen from the Oslo Philharmonic.

tenThing: An All-Female Brass Group

Tine is also the leader of a cool music group called tenThing. This group is special because it's made up of ten women who all play brass instruments.

In 2011, a magazine called BBC Music Magazine named Tine a "Superstar of Tomorrow." That same year, she signed a big contract with a music company called EMI Classics.

Amazing Concerts and Festivals

Tine has played her trumpet with many famous orchestras around the world. Imagine playing with groups like the Vienna Symphony or the Liverpool Philharmonic! She has also performed with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and many Norwegian orchestras.

She has been invited to play at many music festivals, including:

In 2012, Tine played a very important role in a memorial concert. She played her trumpet from the roof of Oslo City Hall to remember the victims of the 2011 Norway attacks.

In 2013, she performed twice at the BBC Proms, which is a huge classical music festival in London. She played with tenThing at the Cadogan Hall and also at the famous Royal Albert Hall.

More recently, in 2024, she gave a special lesson, called a master class, at the Australian National Academy of Music. She also performed with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in Australia.

  • 2005: Second prize at the International Trumpet Competition "Théo Charlier" in Belgium.
  • 2006: Scholarship from the Yamaha Music Foundation Europe.
  • 2006: Second place in the Eurovision Young Musicians 2006 contest.
  • 2007: Luitpold Prize from the Kissinger Sommer festival.
  • 2007: Spellemannprisen for best new artist (this is like the Norwegian Grammy Awards!).
