Tino di Camaino (born around 1280, died around 1337) was a famous Italian sculptor. He created beautiful stone artworks, especially tombs for important people.

Tino was born in Siena, a city in Italy. His father, Camaino di Crescentino, was an architect, which means he designed buildings. Tino learned his skills from a great sculptor named Giovanni Pisano. He even helped his teacher work on the front of the Cathedral of Siena.

Sculpting in Pisa and Siena

Later, Tino moved with his teacher to Pisa. By 1311, he was in charge of the sculpting work at the Pisa Cathedral.

In 1315, Tino returned to Siena. There, he started working on a special tomb for Emperor Henry VII. He left the tomb he was making for Henry VII in Pisa unfinished.

After this, Tino made more tombs in Siena and Florence. One of his most famous works is the tomb of Bishop Orso, found in the Santa Maria del Fiore church in Florence. He also created the tomb of Gastone della Torre, which is now in the museum of the Santa Croce church. Tino also sculpted a statue called Charity, which was probably first placed at the Florence Baptistery.

Work in Naples

From 1323, Tino worked in Naples, a city in southern Italy. He worked for King Robert of Anjou. In Naples, he made several more tombs. These included the tombs of Catherine of Austria in San Lorenzo Maggiore and Queen Mary of Hungary in Santa Maria Donnaregina. You can also find some of his other works in the church of Badia Cava dei Tirreni. Tino di Camaino passed away in Naples around 1337.
