Stanley Frank "Tiny" Hill was a famous New Zealand rugby player. He was known for playing as a "lock" and "flanker" for the All Blacks, New Zealand's national rugby team. Tiny played for the All Blacks from 1955 to 1959. After he stopped playing, he helped choose new players as a selector. He was also honored for his great work in rugby.

Early Life and Rugby Beginnings

Stanley Frank Hill was born on April 9, 1927. His hometown was New Plymouth, New Zealand. Even though his nickname was "Tiny," he was quite tall and strong. He played rugby for two different regions in New Zealand. These were Canterbury and Counties.

Playing for the All Blacks

Tiny Hill became a member of the All Blacks in 1955. This is New Zealand's top rugby team. He played for the All Blacks until 1959. During his time, he played in 19 matches for the team. He even led the team as captain in two of those games. Eleven of his games were against other countries. He played in important positions like "lock" and "flanker."

After Playing Rugby

After Tiny Hill stopped playing rugby, he continued to be involved. He became a selector, which means he helped choose players for teams. He selected players for the New Zealand Army team and the Canterbury team. From 1981 to 1986, he was an All Black selector. This was a very important job in New Zealand rugby.

Awards and Family

In 1996, Tiny Hill received a special award. He was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). This award was given to him for his great contributions to rugby. Tiny Hill had two sons, Stan and John. Both of his sons also became national sports stars. They played for the New Zealand national basketball team.

Tiny Hill passed away on October 2, 2019, in Rolleston.
