The Tivoli-Neu is a modern football stadium located in Innsbruck, Austria. It's the home field for two sports teams: FC Wacker Innsbruck, a football (soccer) team, and the Swarco Raiders Tirol, an American Football team. This stadium was also one of the places where games were played during the UEFA Euro 2008 championship.
A New Home for Sports
The Tivoli-Neu stadium was built to replace an older stadium, also called Tivoli, which closed in 2004. Construction started in March 1999 and finished in September 2000. The first game played here was on September 8, 2000, between FC Tirol and SK Rapid Wien.
Since 2002, after the original FC Tirol team had financial problems, the stadium has been used by FC Wacker Innsbruck. This new team followed in the footsteps of the old club.
Hosting Big Games
The Tivoli-Neu stadium was chosen as one of the venues for the UEFA Euro 2008 football championship. For this big event, the stadium was made temporarily larger. Its seating capacity was increased to 30,000 fans so more people could watch the exciting matches.
Many international football games have been played at Tivoli-Neu. Some of the most notable matches during UEFA Euro 2008 included:
- Spain playing against Russia on June 11, 2008.
- Sweden facing Spain on June 14, 2008.
- Russia playing against Sweden on June 18, 2008.
The stadium has also hosted other international matches involving the Austrian national team and former club teams like FC Tirol Innsbruck.
