Tiyakad facts for kids
Tiyakad is a fun and traditional game from the Philippines. It's a racing game where players walk on tall stilts. These stilts are usually made from strong bamboo or tree branches.
Imagine walking high above the ground! The stilts have footrests that let players stand tall. They then race by moving the stilts forward.
This exciting game is also known as Kadang-Kadang. The name "Kadang-Kadang" means "simple play." It's a game that has been enjoyed by Filipino children for many years. Sometimes, players even use half of a coconut shell with a hole for their foot as a simpler stilt.
How to Play Tiyakad
Tiyakad is often played with teams. Each team usually has about 10 members. However, the number of players can change if everyone agrees.
Getting Ready to Race
- Each player who is racing will use two stilts. They place one stilt under each foot.
- All the first players from each team line up. They stand behind a starting line.
- The goal is to race to a pole and back. Then, they pass the stilts to the next player.
- Two or more teams can play against each other. The more teams, the more exciting the race!
The Race Begins
- When the signal is given, the first players start walking. They use their stilts to move forward.
- They must walk all the way to the pole. Then, they turn around and walk back to their team.
- Once they reach their team, they pass the stilts to the next player in line.
- The first player then moves to the back of their team's line.
- The second player quickly puts on the stilts and starts their turn. They walk to the pole and back, just like the first player.
- This continues until every player on the team has had a turn.
Winning the Game
- The first team to have all its players complete the race wins!
- When the last player returns to the starting line, their team is declared the champion.
Tiyakad is a great way to have fun outdoors. It also helps players improve their balance and coordination. It's a true test of skill and teamwork!
