The Tokyo Metro 08 series (東京メトロ08系, Tōkyō Metoro 08-kei) is a special type of train. It's an electric multiple unit (EMU), which means it's a train made of several cars that all have their own motors. These trains run on the Tokyo Metro Hanzōmon Line in Tokyo, Japan.

The 08 series trains started running on July 1, 2003. A total of six trains were built, and each train has ten cars. They were made by a company called Nippon Sharyo between 2002 and 2003. These new trains were needed to help carry more passengers after the Hanzomon Line was extended to a station called Oshiage. They helped out the older Tokyo Metro 8000 series trains.

Inside the Train: What It Looks Like

The Tokyo Metro 08 series trains are designed to be comfortable for passengers. Let's take a look inside!

Seating and Space

The trains have long seats along the sides, which is common in Japanese subway trains. This design allows more people to stand during busy times. There is also a special area for wheelchairs, making the train accessible for everyone.

Passenger Information Displays

To help passengers know where they are and what the next stop is, the trains have special screens.

  • Older trains used LED (Light Emitting Diode) displays. These screens showed text information.
  • Newer trains have LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screens. These screens can show more detailed information, like maps and transfer options.

Train Operations and Features

These trains have many cool features that help them run smoothly and safely.

How the Train Moves

The 08 series trains use electricity to move. They have special equipment that controls the power.

  • VVVF Inverter: This is a fancy name for a device that controls the speed of the train's motors. It makes the train accelerate and slow down smoothly.
  • SIV Auxiliary Power Supply: This system provides electricity for things like lights, air conditioning, and the information displays inside the train.
  • Air Compressor: Trains need air compressors for their brakes and other systems that use air pressure.

Train Parts You Might Not See

Underneath the train, there are many important parts.

  • Bogies: These are the wheel sets that the train cars sit on. They help the train move smoothly around curves. The 08 series uses a type called ND730 bogies.
  • Driver's Cab: This is where the train driver sits and controls the train. It has many buttons, levers, and screens to operate the train safely.
