Tomás Francisco Prieto started his artistic journey in Salamanca, the city where he was born. He learned his craft from a teacher named Lorenzo Monteman y Cusens. Learning from an experienced artist helped him become very skilled.

Later in his life, Tomás Prieto became the director of the important Royal Academy of San Fernando. This was a big honor, showing how much his work was respected. The Royal Academy was a place where many artists learned and shared their talents.

Tomás's artistic talent also ran in his family! His daughter, Maria de Loretto, also became an engraver. She was born in Madrid in 1753. Maria de Loretto was even made an honorary member of the Academy of San Fernando. This was a special recognition of her own skills before she passed away in 1772.
