Tomás Garicano (1910–1988) was an important Spanish figure. He was a lawyer for the military, a governor, and a politician. He served as the interior minister in Francoist Spain. This means he was in charge of things like public safety and local government. He held this role during a time when the government was very strict.
Early Life and School
Tomás Garicano was born in Pamplona, Navarre, on February 9, 1910. His family came from the regions of Navarre and Gipuzkoa. He went to law school in Zaragoza and Madrid. He finished his studies and became a lawyer in 1929.
His Career Path
Tomás Garicano became a lawyer who worked for the military. He later served as the governor of Barcelona. He held this important job for almost thirteen years. In 1969, he became the minister of interior. He took over from Camilo Alonso Vega. Mr. Vega left the job because he reached the age limit.
Garicano stayed in his role as minister until May 1973. He then decided to step down from the position. After he left, Carlos Arias Navarro became the new interior minister.
Family and Later Life
Tomás Garicano married María Rojas Gestosos. They had six children together. He was also the great-uncle of Luis Garicano. Luis is an economist and politician.
Tomás Garicano passed away in Madrid on January 16, 1988. He was 77 years old.
