This village is found in northern Uruguay. It sits on a road that connects two important routes: Route 3 and Route 30. It is about 27 kilometers (17 miles) southeast of a town called Bella Unión. A train track, which goes from Salto to Bella Unión, also runs through the village.
The Story of Tomás Gomensoro
Long ago, this village had a different name: "Zanja Honda." On May 3, 1909, a special law (Ley 3.455) officially declared it a "Pueblo," which means a village or town. After this, the village was given a new name. It was named after Tomás Gomensoro Albín, who was once the acting President of Uruguay. A president is the leader of a country.
