Raymond Thomas Casamajor Addington (born January 27, 1919 – died October 28, 2011) was a brave soldier in the British Army. He earned a special award called the Military Cross for his courage. This happened during World War II in the Netherlands between 1944 and 1945. He was a "battery captain" with the 13th Honourable Artillery Company, which was part of the Royal Horse Artillery. This group used big guns to support soldiers on the battlefield.

Early Life and Family

Tom Addington was born in a place called Quetta, which was in India at the time but is now part of Pakistan. His father, Raymond Anthony Addington, was a noble known as the 6th Viscount Sidmouth. His father was also a soldier, serving in the 26th King George's Own Light Cavalry in an area called Waziristan. Tom was the third son in his family.

A Soldier's Courage

Tom Addington joined the British Army and became a skilled artillery officer. During World War II, he served as a battery captain. This meant he was in charge of a group of large guns and the soldiers who operated them. His job was to direct the firing of these guns to help his fellow soldiers. He showed great bravery and leadership during battles in the Netherlands, which led to him receiving the Military Cross. This award is given to officers for their courage during active operations against the enemy.

Life After the Army

After the war ended, Tom Addington left the army in 1949. He then started a new life as a cattle farmer. He spent many years working on his farm. He lived a long life, passing away in 2011 at the age of 92.
