Tom Casperson (born July 20, 1959 – died November 29, 2020) was an American politician. He was a member of the Republican Party. Tom Casperson served in the state government of Michigan. He represented parts of the Upper Peninsula.

About Tom Casperson

Casperson was born in Escanaba, Michigan, in 1959. He finished high school in Escanaba in 1977. For 25 years, he worked in his family's business. It was a company that transported logs called Casperson and Son Trucking. He owned this business for ten years. Tom Casperson was married to Diane Casperson. They had four children together.

His Time in Politics

Serving Michigan

Tom Casperson was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives. He served there from 2003 to 2008. In the House, he helped lead the Transportation Committee. He was also part of committees for farming, land use, and helping veterans.

Later, he became a member of the Michigan Senate. He served in the Senate from 2011 to 2018. In this role, he represented a large area of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Running for Congress

In 2008, Tom Casperson decided to run for the United States Congress. He wanted to represent Michigan's First Congressional District. He gathered many signatures to officially start his campaign. This showed he had a lot of support.

He traveled across all 31 counties in the district. He was running against the person already in office, Bart Stupak. In the election that November, Tom Casperson was not elected. He was defeated by Bart Stupak.

His Passing

Tom Casperson passed away on November 29, 2020. He died from cancer.
