Tom Schilling (born February 10, 1982) is a German actor who has starred in many films and TV shows.

Life and Acting Journey

Tom Schilling grew up in Berlin Mitte, a part of what used to be East Germany. When he was 12, a theatre director named Thomas Heise discovered him. Tom then joined the Berliner Ensemble theatre group, a famous theatre company. He stayed there for four years, acting in different plays.

By the time he was 18 and still in school, his acting jobs earned him enough money to move out of his parents' home. He finished school and earned his Abitur certificate, which is like a high school diploma in Germany.

Early Screen Roles

Tom first appeared on screen in 1996, at age 14, in the TV series Hallo, Onkel Doc!. Later, he acted in the movie Paradise Mall [de] (1999). But his big break came with his role in Crazy (2000). For this movie, he won the Talented Young Actor Award from the Bayerischer Filmpreis.

In 2004, Tom starred in the well-known film Before the Fall (German title: Napola – Elite für den Führer). In this movie, he played a young student at a special school called Napola, which existed during a challenging period in German history. In 2006, he received a scholarship to study acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York for one semester.

Tom also played the role of a young Adolf Hitler in the 2009 film Mein Kampf.

Beyond Acting

Originally, Tom wanted to be a painter and study art after school. In an interview from 2008, he shared that he isn't a very outgoing person. He mentioned that having to be "on" every day for acting was a big challenge for him.

Tom has three children. His first son was born in 2006. In 2014, he and his partner, Annie Mosebach, had another son, and then a daughter in 2017. Tom and Annie Mosebach got married in early 2019.
