Thomas Stirman (born August 22, 1879) was an important baseball player and manager. He played in the Negro leagues for several years. These leagues were professional baseball leagues for African American players. They existed before the main Major League Baseball teams allowed Black players. Thomas Stirman played as an outfielder, which means he played in the part of the field farthest from home plate. He also worked as a manager, leading his team.

Early Baseball Days

Thomas Stirman started his baseball journey in Kansas City. He first played for local semi-professional teams. These teams were not fully professional, but players often got paid. He played for teams like the Jenkins Piano Company and the Bradbury Piano Company. By 1909, his talent helped him join the Kansas City Giants. This was a well-known team in the Negro leagues.

Playing and Managing

After playing for the Kansas City Giants, Thomas Stirman joined the Kansas City Royal Giants. He played with them for a few years, from 1910 to 1912. Later, in 1914, he played for a team in Marion County, Ohio. The next year, in 1915, he was asked to become a manager for one of these teams. This showed that his teammates and coaches trusted his leadership skills. He helped guide the team from the dugout.
