Tomb Blaster is a popular dark ride located in the Forbidden Kingdom area of Chessington World of Adventures Resort. But this ride wasn't always called Tomb Blaster! It has a cool history with a few different themes.

From Robots to Robbers: Early Versions

The ride system, made by Mack Rides, first opened in 1987 as The 5th Dimension. This version was a dark ride about a TV repair robot. It was a fun adventure that lasted until 1993.

In 1994, the area around the ride was changed to the Forbidden Kingdom. The ride itself became Terror Tomb. This was a spooky horror ride set in a dark tomb. Terror Tomb told the story of a tomb robber named Abdab. Riders followed his dangerous journey as he tried to steal a special gem. This version of the ride was open from 1994 until 2001.

Tomb Blaster: A New Adventure Begins

In 2002, Tomb Blaster launched! It was a fresh new theme for the old Terror Tomb ride. Many of the original sets from Terror Tomb were kept. However, some of the moving figures (called animatronics) were replaced. The biggest change was adding laser guns for riders to shoot at targets. This turned the ride into an interactive adventure.

Updates and Changes: Keeping the Ride Fresh

In August 2015, Tomb Blaster closed for a short time. It got some upgrades during the park's closed season. These changes included a brand-new laser gun system. The ride also received special ultraviolet lighting and updated sounds.

The improved ride opened in 2016. In 2020, the attraction got another update. This included a new storyline, fresh music, and different lighting. Some targets were also removed. The new story for the ride is that you are helping to clear the tomb of a curse left by a high priest.

What to Expect: Your Mission Inside the Tomb

To ride Tomb Blaster, anyone under 1.1 meters (about 3 feet 7 inches) tall needs to be with an adult.

You'll sit in special "utility vehicles" that take you through the tomb. Your goal is to shoot mummies and monsters with your laser gun. You'll compete with other riders to get the highest score!

As you travel, you'll see many cool scenes. These include a spooky crypt, a spinning tunnel, and pits filled with snakes. Many of the original set pieces from the older Terror Tomb ride are still there. However, the old Abdab animatronics are gone.
