"Tommy's First Birthday" is a very special episode of the popular Nickelodeon cartoon show, Rugrats. It was the first episode to air, premiering on August 11, 1991. However, a pilot episode was made earlier, in 1989, but it wasn't released until 2001. This episode introduces viewers to the funny adventures of baby Tommy Pickles and his friends.

The Story of Tommy's First Birthday

The episode begins on the morning of Tommy Pickles' first birthday. Tommy sees a TV commercial for dog food. He thinks eating it will turn him into a dog. This idea kicks off a big adventure for the babies.

Meanwhile, Tommy's mom, Didi, is very stressed. She wants to throw the perfect birthday party for Tommy. Her plans include a puppet show, but she forgot to hire the puppeteers! She also plans a carrot cake, which Grandpa Boris is not happy about. He really wants a chocolate cake.

Tommy's dad, Stu, has also created a very fancy invention. It's called the Hooverama, and it's supposed to be a big hit at the party.

The Babies' Dog Food Quest

Tommy convinces his baby friends to try the dog food with him. But when they go to get it, they find that Spike, the family dog, has eaten it all! Tommy then spots another can of dog food high up on a shelf.

With help from Angelica and Chuckie, Tommy tries to reach the can. Their attempt causes a lot of chaos. They end up making a huge mess in the kitchen. They also accidentally break Stu's new Hooverama invention.

Party Chaos and a Happy Ending

Soon, all the grown-ups start complaining about the party problems. Grandpa Lou opens a can of dog food for Spike. The babies finally get to try it, but most of them spit it out. Only Phil seems to like it!

After eating the dog food, the babies start acting like dogs. They crawl around on their hands and knees and bark. This silly sight makes the adults stop arguing. They watch the babies in amazement. The episode ends with Grandpa Lou taking a picture of the party. This photo later goes into the Pickles Family Album, capturing a memorable first birthday.
