Tommy Körberg (born 4 July 1948) is a famous Swedish singer, actor, and musician. Many people know him for his role as Anatoly, also called "The Russian," in the musical Chess.
He first played this role on the musical's album in 1984. Then, he performed it live in London's West End in 1986. He has played this part many times since then. Tommy Körberg has also sung for Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest two times. He competed in 1969 and again in 1988.

Tommy Körberg's Music Journey
Tommy Körberg started his music career in the 1960s. From 1965 to 1968, he was the singer for a Swedish pop group. The group was called Tom & Mick & Maniacs.
In 1967, his group released a song called "Somebody's Taken Maria Away". This song became very popular. It was number one on the Tio i Topp music chart for six weeks! The group had two more hit songs after that.
Starting a Solo Career
After his group broke up in 1968, Tommy Körberg began singing on his own. His first solo album was called Nature Boy. This was the start of his long and successful career.
Singing at Eurovision
Tommy Körberg has represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest twice. In 1969, he sang "Judy, min vän" and finished ninth. In 1988, he sang "Stad i ljus" and finished twelfth.
Tommy Körberg in Musicals and Movies
Besides Chess, Tommy Körberg has starred in many other musicals in Sweden. He played the main roles in famous shows like The Sound of Music and Les Misérables. In Les Misérables, he played the important character of Jean Valjean.
He also acted in the Swedish fantasy movie Ronia, the Robber's Daughter in 1984. This movie was based on a book by the famous Swedish author Astrid Lindgren.
Voice Acting and Other Projects
Tommy Körberg also used his voice for movies. He was the voice of the Beast in the Swedish version of Disney's Beauty and the Beast. He also sang the Swedish version of the movie's main song.
In the 1990s and 2000s, he often returned to play Anatoly in Chess. He performed in the 10th-anniversary concert in 1994 and a production in Stockholm in 2002. He also worked with an experimental music group called Solar Plexus.
Working with Benny Andersson
Tommy Körberg often performs with Benny Andersson's band, Benny Anderssons Orkester (BAO). Benny Andersson was a member of the famous group ABBA. With BAO, Tommy sings many dance songs and other music written by Andersson.
In 2008, he starred in the musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. The next year, he played Professor Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady in Stockholm.
Recent Performances
In 2010, Tommy Körberg performed a show called The Big Bang Show with his friend Claes Malmberg. In 2011, he was a judge on a Swedish TV singing competition called True Talent.
He tried to go to Eurovision again in Melodifestivalen 2013. He sang "En Riktig Jävla Schlager" with a group called Ravaillacz. They finished 10th in the final.
In 1995, he was one of seventeen actors from around the world invited to sing at the 10th Anniversary Concert of Les Misérables in London. In 2017, he sang on a song called "For Every Step" with the Swedish band Dead By April.
Looking ahead, Tommy Körberg will return to Les Misérables in 2025. He will play The Bishop of Digne in a special world tour.
Awards and Special Recognitions
Tommy Körberg has received several awards for his talent.
In 1969, he won a Swedish music award called a Grammis. He won it for being the Best Debut Performer.
He was also nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award in 1986. This award was for his amazing performance in the first production of Chess.
In 2002, he won a Guldmasken award for his role in the Swedish production of Chess. The Guldmasken is a national Swedish theater award.

Tommy Körberg was born in Norsjö, Sweden. He has a son named Anton Körberg, who is also an actor and musician. Anton's mother is actress Anki Lidén. In 2007, Tommy Körberg married Anne-Charlotte Nilsson.
