Playing Career Highlights

Tomoaki Ogami was born in Hiroshima, Japan, on June 7, 1970. After finishing his studies at the University of Tsukuba, he began his professional football journey.

Starting with Júbilo Iwata

In 1993, Ogami joined a team called Yamaha Motors. This team later became known as Júbilo Iwata. When he first started, he was the third-choice goalkeeper. This meant two other goalkeepers were usually picked to play before him.

Becoming a Top Goalkeeper

By 1996, Tomoaki Ogami worked hard and became the main starting goalkeeper for Júbilo Iwata. He played in every single match in both 1997 and 1998. His excellent performance led to him being chosen for the J.League Best Eleven in 1997. This is a special award for the best players in the league.

Winning Championships

During his time as a starting player, Júbilo Iwata achieved great success. They won the J1 League championship in 1997. They also won the 1998 J.League Cup in 1998. In April 1999, the team made history by winning the 1998–99 Asian Club Championship. This was their first-ever championship title in Asia!

Later Career and Retirement

Towards the end of 1999, Ogami faced an injury. This meant he lost his spot as the main goalkeeper. He became the third-choice again, behind other talented players. In 2002, he moved to a new team, Avispa Fukuoka. There, he started as the main goalkeeper once more. However, he later lost his starting position. Tomoaki Ogami decided to retire from playing football at the end of the 2004 season.
