Tomohiro Katanosaka (片野坂 知宏, Katanosaka Tomohiro, born 18 April 1971) is a Japanese professional football manager and former player. He is currently the manager of J2 League club Oita Trinita. Born in Kagoshima, Japan, Tomohiro Katanosaka has had a long and successful career in Japanese football, both as a player and a coach.

Early Days and Playing Career

Tomohiro Katanosaka was born on April 18, 1971. After finishing high school, he started his professional football journey in 1990 with Mazda, which later became Sanfrecce Hiroshima. By 1991, he became a regular player, often playing as a left-sided defender. In 1994, his team, Sanfrecce Hiroshima, finished second in the top Japanese football league, the J1 League.

In 1995, Tomohiro moved to Kashiwa Reysol. There, he continued to be a key player. His time at Kashiwa Reysol was very successful, as the club won the 1999 J.League Cup. After playing less often in late 1999, he joined Oita Trinita in 2000. He also played on loan for Gamba Osaka and Vegalta Sendai before returning to Oita Trinita. He retired from playing football at the end of the 2003 season.

Becoming a Successful Football Coach

After ending his playing career, Tomohiro Katanosaka began coaching. He started at Oita Trinita in 2004. In 2007, he moved to Gamba Osaka as a coach. During his time there, Gamba Osaka won the 2007 J.League Cup and the Emperor's Cup in 2008 and 2009.

In 2010, he returned to his first club, Sanfrecce Hiroshima, as a coach. The team achieved great success, winning the J1 League in 2012 and 2013. He then went back to Gamba Osaka in 2014. That year, Gamba Osaka had an amazing season, winning all three major Japanese titles: the J1 League, the J.League Cup, and the Emperor's Cup. They won the Emperor's Cup again in 2015.

In 2016, Tomohiro Katanosaka became the manager of Oita Trinita. He led the team to win the J3 League championship in 2016, which meant they were promoted to the J2 League. In 2018, Oita Trinita finished second in the J2 League, earning another promotion to the top division, the J1 League. He managed Gamba Osaka in 2022 and returned to Oita Trinita as manager in 2024.
