Tomoki Suzuki (born June 14, 1994) is a talented wheelchair racer from Japan. He has won several big races, including the Tokyo Marathon in 2020, 2024, and 2025. He also finished second in the Tokyo Marathon in 2015, 2018, 2021, and 2023. Tomoki has also placed third in the London Marathon in 2019 and 2023.

He earned a bronze medal in the mixed 4 × 100 metres relay at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. He also won a bronze medal in the marathon T54 event at the 2024 Summer Paralympics.

About Tomoki Suzuki

Tomoki Suzuki was born on June 14, 1994, in Tateyama, Chiba, Japan. When he was just eight months old, he was in a car accident. This accident caused him to have paraplegia, which means he uses a wheelchair. Today, Tomoki lives in Tokyo.

Tomoki's Racing Journey

Tomoki Suzuki started his racing career early. He competed in the 2009 Asian Youth Para Games when he was still in middle school. Later, in secondary school, he was coached by Nobukazu Hanaoka, who is also a Paralympian. Now, Tomoki is a member of the Toyota athletics club.

Early Competitions

Tomoki finished second at the 2015 Tokyo Marathon. His first major international competition was the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha, Qatar. However, he did not qualify for the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. In 2016, he placed second at the Oita International Wheelchair Marathon.

World Championships Success

In 2017, Tomoki came third at the 2017 Tokyo Marathon. At the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships in London, he achieved a big win. Tomoki, along with teammates Sho Watanabe, Yuki Nishi, and Hitoshi Matsunaga, won the 4 × 400 metres relay race. He also finished fifth in the 800 metres T54 event at those championships.

Marathon Achievements

Tomoki finished second at the 2018 Tokyo Marathon, just one second behind the winner. That same year, he was second again at the Oita International Wheelchair Marathon. He also placed sixth at the New York City Marathon.

In 2019, Tomoki came third at the 2019 London Marathon. This strong performance helped him qualify for the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo.

Winning the Tokyo Marathon

Tomoki won the 2020 Tokyo Marathon. He took the lead early in the race and finished with a time of 1:21:52. This was a new course record! He won by a large margin.

In December 2020, Tomoki was recognized as one of the top male para-athletes by Runner's World magazine. He also won the Australia Day Oz Day 10K Wheelchair Road Race three times in a row, in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

Paralympic Games and Recent Races

At the 2020 Summer Paralympics, Tomoki competed in several events. He finished ninth in the 1500 metres T54 final. He was also part of the Japanese team that won a bronze medal in the mixed 4 × 100 metres relay. He placed seventh in the marathon T54 race.

Tomoki continued his success by finishing second at the 2021 Tokyo Marathon and the 2023 Tokyo Marathon. He also came third at the 2023 London Marathon.

In 2024, Tomoki won the 2024 Tokyo Marathon by more than five minutes. At the 2024 Summer Paralympics, he earned another bronze medal in the marathon T54 event. He also won the 2025 Tokyo Marathon.
