Toni Payne was born and grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, in the United States. Her parents are from Nigeria. She has two younger siblings who also play football, Stephen and Nicole Payne. Toni and her sister Nicole have played together for the Nigeria women's national team.

Toni Payne has played for several football clubs. She started her professional career in the Netherlands before moving to Spain and then England.
Playing for Ajax
In 2017, Toni Payne was invited to train with Ajax, a famous club in the Netherlands. She impressed them and signed a contract to play for the team.
