Anthony Wayne Beasley (born December 5, 1966) is an American baseball coach. He is currently the third base coach for the Texas Rangers, a team in Major League Baseball (MLB). Before this, he was an interim manager for the Texas Rangers. He also coached and managed minor league teams for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals.

Playing Baseball

Tony Beasley played baseball for nine seasons in the minor leagues. He mostly played in the middle of the infield. During his playing career, he hit for a .260 batting average. He also hit 22 home runs and had 242 RBIs (runs batted in) in 854 games.

Drafted by the Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles first chose Tony Beasley in the 19th round of the 1989 baseball draft. Later, in 1991, the Pittsburgh Pirates traded for him.

All-Star Player

Tony was named an All-Star in the Carolina League in both 1990 and 1991. He also earned an All-Star spot in the Southern League in 1996.

Coaching and Managing

After his playing days, Tony Beasley became a coach and manager. He has spent many years helping baseball players improve.

Early Managing Career

Tony started his managing career with the Williamsport Crosscutters in 2001. He led his team to a great 46-26 record and a first-place finish. His team was named co-champions of the New York–Penn League.

He was also named the Low Class-A Manager of the Year by Baseball America in 2002 and 2003. He guided the Hickory Crawdads to a championship in 2002.

Major League Coaching

Beasley has coached at the Major League level for several seasons. In 2006, he was the third base coach for the Washington Nationals. He then returned to the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.

From 2008 to 2010, he was the third base coach for the Pirates' Major League team. In total, Tony spent 18 years working with the Pittsburgh organization.

Minor League Managing Success

Tony Beasley managed teams in the Pirates' minor league system for five seasons. His teams made it to the postseason every year. Their combined record was 372 wins and 258 losses, which is a very good winning percentage of .590.

In 2004, he was named the Double-A Manager of the Year by Baseball America. This was after he led the Altoona Curve to the championship series.

Coaching for the Nationals Again

In 2011, Beasley went back to the Nationals. He managed the Double-A Harrisburg Senators. From 2012 to 2013, he managed the Syracuse Chiefs, which was the Nationals' top minor league team. In 2014, he helped coordinate player instruction in the Nationals' minor league system.

Arizona Fall League

Tony also managed the Mesa Desert Dogs in the Arizona Fall League in 2004. His team finished in first place in their division.

Personal Life

Tony Beasley is a Christian. He is married to Stacy Beasley, and they have one son.

Health and Recovery

In February 2016, Tony was diagnosed with a serious health condition. This meant he had to miss the start of the 2016 baseball season. However, he bravely fought the illness.

By December 2016, he was declared cancer-free. He returned to his role as third base coach in 2017. Five years later, in 2021, he continued to show no signs of the illness, which was great news!
