Tony Rutter (born September 24, 1941 – died March 24, 2020) was a famous British motorcycle racer. He was especially good at racing on street circuits. These are race tracks made from regular roads! Tony won seven exciting races at the Isle of Man TT between 1973 and 1985.

Tony Rutter's Racing Journey
Tony Rutter raced in the top motorcycle events, known as the Grand Prix world championships. He competed from 1969 to 1976.
Winning National Championships
Tony was a national champion in British road racing.
- In 1971, he won the 350cc class on a Yamaha motorcycle.
- In 1973, he won the 250cc class, also on a Yamaha.
Isle of Man TT Success
The Isle of Man TT is a very famous and challenging race. Tony Rutter won seven races there:
- He won the Junior TT in 1973 and 1974.
- He won the Formula 2 TT four times: in 1981, 1982, 1983, and 1985.
- He also won the Senior 350 TT in 1982.
Tony also finished second in the 1979 Senior TT and the 1985 Formula 1 TT. He came in third in the 1984 Formula 1 TT.
North West 200 Achievements
In 1973, Tony Rutter was the first person to complete a lap of the North West 200 circuit at over 110 miles per hour! This is a very fast speed. He won this event nine times and was added to its Hall of Fame.
Formula Two World Champion
Tony Rutter was also a world champion in Formula Two racing. He won this title four times in a row, from 1981 to 1984.
Later Career
In 1985, Tony had a serious accident at a race track in Barcelona, Spain. Even after this, he was incredibly brave. He recovered and continued to race in the Isle of Man TT until 1991.
Tony Rutter's Family and Legacy
Tony Rutter's son, Michael, also became a professional motorcycle racer. He followed in his father's footsteps.
Tony Rutter passed away on March 24, 2020, when he was 78 years old. He had been ill for a short time.
