Anthony Paul James Smurfit (born in 1963) is a well-known businessman with roots in both England and Ireland. He is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a large packaging company called Smurfit Westrock. This company is named after his grandfather, John Jefferson Smurfit.

Who is Tony Smurfit?
Early Life and Education
Tony Smurfit was born in 1963 in Wigan, a town in Lancashire, England. His father, Michael Smurfit, was also a businessman, and his mother was Norma Triesman.
Tony went to school at St Gerard's School in Ireland. After that, he studied in the United States at the University of Scranton. In 1985, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in management. To learn even more about the packaging industry, he spent some time studying in Japan.
Starting His Career in Business
In the 1980s, Tony Smurfit joined Jefferson Smurfit, the company his father was leading at the time. He quickly moved up in the company. By 1989, he was appointed as a director.
He worked in many different roles across the United States and Europe. One of his important jobs was leading Smurfit France. In 1999, he became the Chief Operations Officer (COO) for the company's European division. Before that, he had been the deputy for a year. Tony was then promoted to COO for the entire company in November 2002.
Becoming a CEO
In September 2015, Tony Smurfit was chosen to be the CEO of Smurfit Kappa. He took over from the previous CEO, Gary McGann, who retired.
Besides his role at Smurfit Kappa, Tony is also involved with several important groups. He is on the boards of the Confederation of European Paper Industries and Ibec. He also serves as an honorary consul for Mexico in Ireland. This means he helps represent Mexico's interests there. Additionally, he is a member of the European Round Table for Industry, which brings together leaders from major European companies.
In the past, Tony Smurfit was also a board member for Aer Rianta from 1996 to 2001. He also served on the board of C&C Group from 2012 to 2016.
Tony Smurfit's Personal Life
Tony Smurfit is married to Sharon Devlin, who used to be a model and actress. They have four children together.
One of Tony's hobbies is breeding horses. He was even a member of the board for the Irish National Stud, which is a famous horse breeding farm in Ireland.
