Tony Yarber (born April 16, 1978) is an American pastor, teacher, and politician. He is from Jackson, Mississippi. He was elected as the Mayor of Jackson in April 2014. This happened after the previous mayor, Chokwe Lumumba, passed away. Tony Yarber grew up in Jackson and had experience as a city council member. He is known for caring a lot about young people. People have also described him as someone who helps groups work together. He was followed as Mayor of Jackson by Chokwe Antar Lumumba on July 3, 2017.

About Tony Yarber's Life
Tony Yarber was born in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1978. His parents are George and Deloris Yarber. He grew up in the city's Westside Community. He went to Forest Hill High School in Jackson.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. He got this from the University of Southern Mississippi. He also received a Master of Science degree in Education Administration. This was from Jackson State University. Tony Yarber has worked as a school teacher. He also served as an elementary school principal.
He is also the Pastor and Founder of the Relevant Empowerment Church. This church started in 2008. He has been on the Board of Directors for Relevant Ministries.
Tony Yarber has a black belt in ninjutsu. He is married and has three children.
Community Involvement
Tony Yarber helped start Alignment Jackson. This is a non-profit group. It works to make student learning better.
He was also the second Vice-President of the Mississippi Black Caucus of Locally Elected Officials. This group helps local leaders.
Serving in Public Office
City Council Member
In 2009, Tony Yarber started working in city politics. He ran for a spot on the Jackson City Council. He represented Ward 6. In 2011, he became the City Council Vice President. The next year, in 2012, he became the President. In 2013, Yarber led the Budget Committee. He also chaired the Education/Youth Ad Hoc Committee.
Mayor of Jackson
Tony Yarber was elected Mayor of Jackson on April 22, 2014. He won in a special election. He ran against Chokwe Antar Lumumba. Chokwe Antar Lumumba is the son of the former mayor, Chokwe Lumumba.
As mayor, Tony Yarber said his main goals were to improve services for people living in Jackson. He also wanted to bring new businesses to the city. Yarber also talked about Jackson's potential. He saw it as a place that could grow as an entertainment center. He also thought it could become a "medical corridor."
On May 2, 2017, Tony Yarber ran for mayor again. He was defeated by Chokwe Antar Lumumba. Yarber received 5% of the votes. Lumumba received 55% in the primary election.
