Tonyelle Cook-Artis is an American politician and a leader in government. She comes from the state of Pennsylvania.

She currently works for the Delaware River Port Authority in Philadelphia. There, she helps manage government relations and grants. Before this, she was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. She represented the 200th House district in Philadelphia for one term in 2016.

Early Life and Education

Tonyelle Cook-Artis was born on September 2, 1974, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She finished high school at Lankenau High School in 1997.

She went on to college and earned a Bachelor of Science degree. This degree was in political science and government from Bennett College in 2001. Later, she earned her Master of Arts degree in political management. She received this from George Washington University in 2013.

Political Career and Public Service

Before becoming a state representative, Tonyelle Cook-Artis worked in different government roles. She was a staff assistant for U.S. Congresswoman Alma Adams. She also helped people as a representative for Philadelphia City Councilwoman Marian B. Tasco.

Additionally, she served as the chief-of-staff for Pennsylvania Representative Cherelle Parker. This experience helped her learn a lot about how government works.

Serving in the State House

In March 2016, Cook-Artis won a special election. This election was held to finish Cherelle Parker's term. Parker had left the House to join the Philadelphia City Council.

So, Tonyelle Cook-Artis became a state representative. However, in April of that same year, Chris Rabb won the Democratic primary election against her. He received more votes, with 47.4 percent compared to her 41.4 percent.

Work with the Port Authority

From March 2017 to November 2021, Cook-Artis worked for the Delaware River Port Authority. She was the manager of government relations in Philadelphia.

In November 2021, she was promoted within the organization. She became the acting director of government relations. This shows her continued dedication to public service.
