The Tootinaowaziibeeng Treaty Reserve (which means Dootinaawi-ziibiing in the Ojibwe language) is a special area of land for a First Nation community. It is located about 35 kilometers (22 miles) east of Roblin, Manitoba. It is also 74 kilometers (46 miles) west of Dauphin, Manitoba. You can find it about 5 kilometers (3 miles) north of PTH #5.
This First Nation is part of Treaty 4. This means their ancestors signed an agreement with the Canadian government a long time ago.
The main land area for the Tootinaowaziibeeng Treaty Reserve is called Valley River 63A. This reserve is next to the Rural Municipalities of Grandview and Hillsburg. To its north, it is bordered by the Duck Mountain Provincial Forest. The Valley River flows through this First Nation land. It starts in the northwest and leaves in the southeast.
About 1600 people belong to the Tootinaowaziibeeng First Nation. Roughly half of these people live on the Valley River reserve. The other half live in different places outside the reserve.
About Valley River 63A
Valley River 63A is the main reserve for the Tootinaowaziibeeng Treaty Reserve. It is located about 320 kilometers (200 miles) northwest of Winnipeg. The land area of this reserve is about 46.68 square kilometers (18 square miles).
This reserve shares its borders with the municipalities of Grandview and Roblin. The Duck Mountain Provincial Forest is also located along its northern side. The Valley River flows right through the community. It enters the land in the northwest corner and flows out towards the southeast.
