Discovering Topping
Topping might be a small place, but it has some interesting history!
Hummel Field: A Place for Planes
Topping is home to a special place called Hummel Field. This is a small airport that was created way back in 1925. It was started by a man named Fred Hummel. He was part of a group called the Early Birds of Aviation. This group included people who were among the very first to fly airplanes!
Later, in 1970, Fred Hummel gave the land for the airfield to Middlesex County. This made sure that the airport could continue to be used.
Prospect: A Historic Home
Another important spot in Topping is a historic house called Prospect. This old plantation house has a lot of history. It was so important that it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. This list includes buildings, sites, and objects that are important to American history.
