Tor Hamer (born January 20, 1983) is an American former professional boxer. He competed in boxing from 2008 to 2013. As an amateur, he won the 2008 National Golden Gloves title in the super heavyweight division.

Tor Hamer's Early Life
Tor Hamer grew up in different places. He spent time in Harlem, a neighborhood in New York City, and also in the suburbs of Baltimore. He went to private and charter schools before attending Penn State University. There, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree.
Family Background
Tor Hamer comes from a family that values education. His father studied at Harvard University, and his mother went to Villanova University. Both of his parents work in the field of education. Tor Hamer is also the grandson of Fannie Lou Hamer, a very important civil rights activist.
Amateur Boxing Career
Tor Hamer trained at a famous boxing gym called Gleason's Gym. This gym has helped many great boxers.
Key Amateur Fights
During the National Championships, Hamer had a close fight against a boxer named Lenroy Thompson. Thompson was a southpaw, meaning he boxed with his left hand forward. Hamer narrowly lost that match. However, he later got his revenge! He beat Thompson in the quarterfinals of the Golden Gloves tournament. This win was important because it was his only loss as an amateur. Overall, Tor Hamer had a very impressive amateur record of 34 wins and only 1 loss.
Professional Boxing Journey
After winning the Golden Gloves in May 2008, Tor Hamer became very popular in the boxing world. Some of the biggest boxing promoters wanted to sign him. These included Oscar De La Hoya, Don King, and Lou DiBella. Hamer decided to sign with DiBella Entertainment.
First Professional Fights
Tor Hamer made his professional boxing debut on October 22, 2008. He won his first fight against Joseph Rabotte. Hamer won by a TKO (Technical Knockout) in the second round. This means the referee stopped the fight because Rabotte could not continue safely. Hamer later had his first professional loss on points to an undefeated boxer named Kelvin Price.
Prizefighter Tournament Win
In June 2012, Tor Hamer won the second Prizefighter International Heavyweights tournament. This exciting event took place in London. To win the tournament, Hamer had to beat three opponents in one night.
- He first defeated Marcelo Nascimento by a unanimous decision. This means all the judges agreed that Hamer won the fight.
- Next, he knocked out Tom Dallas (who had a record of 15 wins and 2 losses) in just 29 seconds!
- In the final match, he faced Kevin Johnson, who was favored to win the tournament. Johnson had a record of 26 wins and only 1 loss. Hamer beat Johnson to become the Prizefighter champion.
Later Career Challenges
After his big win, Hamer faced some tough challenges. He lost fights against Vyacheslav Glazkov and Andy Ruiz. In both cases, he lost by way of forfeit. This means he was unable to continue the fight for some reason. Tor Hamer retired from professional boxing in 2013.
