Toralv Maurstad (born 24 November 1926 – died 4 November 2022) was a famous Norwegian actor. He performed in plays, movies, and on television. His parents, Alfred Maurstad and Tordis Maurstad, were also well-known actors. He was the half-brother of actress Mari Maurstad. Toralv first appeared in a movie called Fant in 1937, which also starred his father.

Toralv Maurstad's Acting Journey
Starting His Career
Toralv Maurstad studied acting in London. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 1949. After his studies, he became a leading actor in Norway.
A Leader in Theatre
Besides acting, Toralv Maurstad was also a respected director. He led the Oslo Nye Teater (Oslo New Theatre) from 1967 to 1978. Later, he became the head of Norway's main theatre, Nationaltheatret, from 1978 to 1986.
Playing Peer Gynt
Many people believed Toralv Maurstad was the best actor to play Peer Gynt. This is a very famous play by Henrik Ibsen. Maurstad performed this role many times. He even showed parts of the play at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
Working Beyond Norway
Toralv Maurstad also worked on international projects. He was in an American movie called Song of Norway in 1970. This musical film was about the composer Edvard Grieg. He also acted with Liv Ullmann in a play called A Doll's House in New York City. This play was also written by Henrik Ibsen.
Awards and Family Life
Special Recognition
Toralv Maurstad received high honors from Norway. In 1974, the King of Norway made him a Knight, First Class of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav. This is a very important award. In 2007, he was given an even higher honor, becoming a Commander of the Order of St. Olav.
His Family
Toralv Maurstad was married three times. His first wife was Swedish actress Eva Henning. They had two sons together. Later, he married Anne-Ma Burum. His third wife was actress Beate Eriksen. They married on New Year's Eve in 1999. In 2001, they tried to adopt a child, but their request was not approved.
His Passing
Toralv Maurstad passed away on 4 November 2022. He was 95 years old.
