Torbjørn Røe Isaksen (born 28 July 1978) is a Norwegian politician. He was a Member of Parliament for the Conservative Party. He served as a government minister in several important roles.
From 2020 to 2021, he was the Minister of Labour and Social Inclusion. Before that, he was the Minister of Trade and Industry from 2018 to 2020. He also served as the Minister of Education and Research from 2013 to 2018. During part of 2017, he took parental leave, and another politician, Henrik Asheim, took over his duties temporarily.

Political Journey
Torbjørn Røe Isaksen has had a busy career in Norwegian politics. He started early and moved up to lead important government departments.
Early Political Steps
Isaksen began his political journey in the youth wing of the Conservative Party, called the Young Conservatives (Unge Høyre). From 2002 to 2004, he was the editor of their newspaper, Xtra. He then became the leader of the Young Conservatives, a role he held from 2004 to 2008.
Before becoming a full-time politician, Isaksen worked as a freelance journalist. He was also the political editor for a magazine called Minerva. He studied at the University of Oslo and earned a master's degree in political science.
In 2007, a newspaper called VG recognized him as Norway's most talented young politician. In 2008, he wrote a book titled The Right Turn. For a New Conservatism.
Serving in Parliament
Isaksen comes from a town called Porsgrunn. He first served as a substitute member of the Norwegian Parliament for the Telemark area from 2005 to 2009. In the 2009 election, he was the main candidate for the Telemark Conservatives. He was then elected to the parliament for the first time.
Becoming a Government Minister
Torbjørn Røe Isaksen served as a minister throughout Erna Solberg’s time as prime minister. He led different ministries during this period.
Minister of Education
After the 2013 election, Isaksen was chosen to be the Minister of Education in Prime Minister Solberg’s government. He kept this job after the 2017 election. He took parental leave from September to November 2017. He continued as Minister of Education until January 17, 2018.
Minister of Trade and Industry
On January 17, 2018, Isaksen was appointed Minister of Trade and Industry. This happened when the Liberal Party joined the government.
In June 2018, he announced that the Norwegian government would sell its shares in SAS. He believed it was a good time to sell because the company was doing well. He also said that this change would not affect jobs or how the airline operated.
In March 2019, Isaksen supported the idea of having only summer time in Norway, instead of changing clocks twice a year.
Minister of Labour and Social Inclusion
Isaksen became the Minister of Labour and Social Inclusion on January 24, 2020. This change happened after the Progress Party left the government.
In March 2020, he briefly served as acting Minister of Fisheries for eleven days. This was after the previous minister, Geir-Inge Sivertsen, resigned. Odd Emil Ingebrigtsen then took over the role.
In May 2020, Isaksen announced that he would not run in the 2021 election. He decided to step down from politics to spend more time with his family.
In September 2021, Røe Isaksen spoke out against a knife attack at a Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration office in Bergen. He called it a "very tragic event" and expressed his thoughts for the victims and their families. He also mentioned that such incidents should be reviewed to see if improvements are needed.
After the 2021 election, Jonas Gahr Støre formed a new government. Hadia Tajik then took over Isaksen's role as Minister of Labour and Social Inclusion.
Life After Politics
On December 15, 2021, Torbjørn Røe Isaksen left the Conservative Party. He started a new job as the social editor at E24, a Norwegian business news website.
