The Torre Colpatria (which means Colpatria Tower in English) is a super tall building in Bogotá, Colombia. It has 50 floors and stands in the city's downtown area. This amazing skyscraper was built between 1973 and 1978, opening its doors in 1979.
With a height of 196 metres (643 ft), it was once the tallest building in Colombia. It held this record for many years, until 2016. Today, it is the fourth tallest building in the country. The Colpatria Bank has its main offices here, along with many other banks and financial companies. You can find this famous building at the corner of 26th street and 7th avenue, right in the heart of Bogotá.
Since 1998, the Colpatria Tower has lit up the night sky with colorful lights. In 2012, a company called Philips updated these lights. They installed a 120-metre (390 ft)-high LED system. This new system makes the building shine even brighter and can even show cool high-definition images. Because of its height and bright lights, the Colpatria Tower is a famous landmark in Bogotá. It helps make the city's skyline look amazing, alongside other tall buildings like the BD Bacatá.
Building Design
The Colpatria Tower has a unique design. Its base is shaped like a square. This square base sits where two of Bogotá's busiest avenues meet. The outside of the building has concrete pillars and tall glass windows. These go all the way from the ground to the roof. This design helps bring fresh air and natural light into the offices.
The Colpatria Tower complex also includes a separate building with ten floors. This smaller building was made to highlight how tall the main tower is. Inside, you'll find various public and commercial bank offices. There are also places for parking cars.
Observation Deck
One of the coolest features of the tower is its observation deck. It's located on the 49th floor! You can visit it on weekends and holidays. From up there, you get an incredible view of Bogotá. Because the tower is so tall and in the center of the city, it's one of the best places to see the whole city from above.
