Toshihiro Aoyama (青山 敏弘, Aoyama Toshihiro) is a former Japanese professional footballer. He was born on February 22, 1986. He played as a defensive midfielder. Aoyama spent his entire professional career playing for Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

Aoyama's Football Journey

Toshihiro Aoyama was born in Kurashiki, Japan. He started his football journey in youth clubs. He joined Kawatetsu SS from 1992 to 1998. After that, he played for Hajaxs FC from 1998 to 2000. He then attended Sakuyo High School from 2001 to 2003.

Playing for Sanfrecce Hiroshima

Aoyama joined Sanfrecce Hiroshima in 2004. He played for this club for 21 years. He was a very important player for them. He helped them win many big titles.

He won the J1 League three times with Sanfrecce Hiroshima. These wins were in 2012, 2013, and 2015. He also helped them win the J2 League in 2008. This meant they moved up to the top league.

Aoyama also won the Japanese Super Cup four times. These victories were in 2008, 2013, 2014, and 2016. He also helped his team win the J.League Cup in 2022.

Playing for Japan's National Team

Aoyama also played for the Japan national team. He played 12 games for his country. He scored one goal for Japan.

He was part of the team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. In 2018, he was chosen for the team that might go to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. But he got injured and could not play in the final tournament.

He also helped Japan reach the finals of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. They finished as runners-up in that competition.

Retirement from Football

On October 20, 2024, Toshihiro Aoyama announced he was retiring from football. He ended his career after playing for 21 years with Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
