Playing Career Highlights
Toshihiro Matsushita was born in Kagoshima, Japan, on October 17, 1983. After finishing high school, he began his professional football journey.
Early Years at Gamba Osaka
In 2002, Matsushita joined Gamba Osaka, a club in Japan's top league, the J1 League. He made his debut in his first season. He played several matches each year as a right-side midfielder. In 2005, he played in many games, often coming in as a substitute. However, in 2006, he found it harder to get playing time.
Moving to Albirex Niigata
In June 2006, Matsushita moved to Albirex Niigata. He continued to play many matches as a substitute midfielder. By 2008, he became a regular player for the team. He was an important part of their offensive midfield.
Time with FC Tokyo
In 2010, Matsushita joined FC Tokyo. He played in 21 league matches and scored 1 goal for the club. However, his opportunities to play became fewer later that year.
Success with Vegalta Sendai
Matsushita moved to Vegalta Sendai in 2011. This was a very successful period for him. He played many games as both an offensive and defensive midfielder. In the 2011 season, Vegalta Sendai finished in 4th place in the J1 League. This was the best result in the club's history at that time. The team did even better in the 2012 season, finishing in 2nd place in the J1 League.
Later Career and Retirement
In 2014, Matsushita joined Yokohama FC, a club in the J2 League. He played many matches as a right midfielder for three seasons. He scored 9 goals in 74 appearances for Yokohama FC. In 2017, he moved to his hometown club, Kagoshima United FC, which played in the J3 League. He played for two seasons there. Toshihiro Matsushita officially retired from professional football at the end of the 2018 season. Throughout his career, he played in 323 league matches and scored 25 goals.
