Satoshio Matsuura (松浦 敏夫, Matsuura Satoshio, born November 20, 1955) is a former Japanese football player and manager. He was a talented forward who played for the Japan national team. Matsuura was born in Yokohama, Japan, and became a well-known name in Japanese football during the 1980s.

Playing Career: A Football Star

Satoshio Matsuura started his football journey in Yokohama. He played for Yokohama Midorigaoka High School and then for Waseda University. After finishing university, he joined a club called Nippon Kokan in 1978. This club later became known simply as NKK.

Success with NKK

Matsuura played as a forward for NKK for many years, from 1978 until he retired in 1991. During his time with the club, they achieved great success.

  • In 1980, NKK won the JSL Cup.
  • In 1981, they won the Emperor's Cup, another important football competition in Japan.

From 1985 to 1988, NKK was one of the top teams in the Japan Soccer League. They finished in second place for three years in a row! In 1987, they won the 1987 JSL Cup again.

Matsuura was a fantastic goal scorer. He was the top scorer in the Japan Soccer League for two seasons:

  • 1986–87
  • 1987–88

He played 193 league games and scored 68 goals for NKK during his career.

Representing Japan: National Team Matches

Satoshio Matsuura also had the honor of playing for the Japan national football team. He made his first appearance for Japan on June 2, 1981, in a match against China.

He played in important matches, including the qualification games for the 1984 Summer Olympics. In 1986, he was called up to the national team again after two years and played in the 1986 Asian Games.

His last game for Japan was in 1987, during the 1984 Summer Olympics qualification matches. Overall, Matsuura played 22 games for the Japan national team and scored 6 goals.

Life After Playing: Coaching Career

After he stopped playing football in 1991, Satoshio Matsuura decided to become a coach. In 1992, he became the manager of his former club, NKK. However, the club was disbanded at the end of the 1993 season, and Matsuura resigned from his coaching role.
