Tracy Camilla Johns is an American actress who was born on April 12, 1963. She is famous for her very first movie role as Nola Darling in the 1986 film She's Gotta Have It. This movie was directed by Spike Lee. Her acting in this film was so good that she was nominated for an award called Best Female Lead at the 1987 Independent Spirit Awards.
Early Career and Other Roles
After her first big movie, Tracy Camilla Johns appeared in a popular advertisement for Air Jordan shoes in 1988. In this ad, she worked alongside director Spike Lee and basketball legend Michael Jordan. In the same year, she was also featured in the music video for the song "Wild Thing" by Tone Lōc.
Tracy Camilla Johns continued her acting career in other films. She appeared in Mo' Better Blues in 1990 and New Jack City in 1991. She also had roles in several TV shows, including Family Ties, She's Gotta Have It, and Snoops.
Returning to Her Famous Role
Years later, in 2012, Tracy Camilla Johns played the character of Nola Darling again in Spike Lee's film Red Hook Summer. In this movie, her character was older and had become a Jehovah's Witness.
