In an interview with New York Times, Tracy shared that the show changed its dance focus after he was hired. They switched from Martha Graham's technique to Lester Horton's. This was because Horton's technique, which Tracy teaches, was better for showing strong male dancing. Alvin Ailey's choreography was also inspired by Lester Horton.
