Trang facts for kids
Trang is a beautiful province in southern Thailand. It's located right by the Andaman Sea, which is part of the Indian Ocean. Trang covers an area of about 5,000 square kilometers. Imagine a place with a mainland and 46 islands! Most of the land on the mainland is covered in hills. Two important rivers, the Trang River and the Palian River, flow through the province. These rivers wind their way between two mountain ranges, the Khao Luang and the Khao Banthat.
Long ago, Trang was a busy port where ships came and went for trade with other countries. It was also the very first place in Thailand where rubber trees were planted! In 1899, a governor named Mahison Phakdi brought rubber trees from Malaysia and started planting them here. Today, rubber is a very important product for Thailand.
The weather in Trang has two main seasons. The monsoon season, from June to September, brings big storms and lots of rain. The driest time of year is from October to May, when there's much less rain.
The name Trang used to be Ta-Rang, which came from the Malay language. Later, Thai people shortened it to just one syllable, Trang.
